Sunny Tsawwassen is home to some of the best businesses in Delta, a fact that was celebrated at last week's Delta Chamber of Commerce Hats Off to Excellence Awards at Tsawwassen Springs.

The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy, The RunInn and Unitech Construction were among three Tsawwassen business bringing home winning prizes, while companies like 604 DENTAL and Nurse Next Door were finalists in their categories.

Paul Gibbons, owner of the Medicine Shoppe in Windsor Woods, accepted his award for “Rising Star Business of the Year”, edging out next-door nominee 604 DENTAL.

Meanwhile, Unitech Construction Management received “Large Business of the Year”, and The RunInn was awarded “Small Business of the Year”.

The only surprise in the latter win was that long-time owner Kevin Ridley did not run to the stage to accept his prize.

“From the beginning we have always believed that great customer service and expertise is what set us apart from other retail stores but just as important for us is to give back to the community for supporting us,” he told the audience.

The RunInn holds numerous community initiatives throughout the year, including Jog for a Jug, Hannah's Heroes in support of cancer research, among others.

Above all, Kevin reminded the crowd about the importance of supporting small, local businesses because the vast majority of fundraising for local charities and causes comes from businesses like his.

“When we shop with local business first it helps our local tax base, keeps money circulated within the community and allows small business owners to help out all those soccer , baseball, and football teams as well as school fundraisers and galas.

“So when you go Christmas shopping these next few weeks think about shopping with the independent businesses of Ladner and Tsawwassen first. It's what helps keep our community strong!”
